A parade to celebrate Walking Trees by Marie-Louise Gay
Out of stock
REGISTER BY WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 30 AT NOON to be part of the random draw to pull a wagon in the Tree Parade.
You are invited to a Tree Parade to celebrate the book Walking Trees by Marie-Louise Gay as part of our 2024 Kidsโ Day/Journรฉe jeunesse.
But what is a tree parade, you ask?
In Gayโs book, Lily pulls her tree, George, around the city in a wagon to get some fresh airโand soon realizes how much George adds to her urban neighbourhood, and we want to celebrate that spirit in a tree parade of our ownโand youโre invited!
Meet us at the back plaza of the Halifax Central Library at 11:30 am on Saturday November 2, where we will walk seven (7) tree saplings to the Public Gardens in little red wagons.
Parade Marshall Peter Duinker (Halifax Tree Project) will lead us along the sidewalk on Spring Garden Road to the Halifax Public Gardens, pulling the trees as we go. When we arrive we will plant the trees with the help of city staff. This will help with succession planting and will make a special space for visitors to the garden in futureโthese trees will become a place kids can visit, daydream under, read booksโand even read to the trees!
Once the trees are planted, itโs back down to Halifax Central Library, where our Kidsโ Day/Journรฉe jeunesse festivities will begin with doors open at 12:30, and Cozy Corner readings starting at 1pm.
Please note that while this is a free event we need you to register to participate.ย
Do this in two ways. Put free tickets in your cart above, and that will ensure you get email reminders about the event. And then please complete this form to complete your registration. We will draw names from all those who register to select seven (7) lucky families to pull wagons in the tree parade.
We are thrilled to bring this special event to our AfterWords community and we are looking for donors and sponsors to help us bring this idea to life. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in sponsoring a tree and wagon please let us know. The funds raised will cover the cost of the event and any additional funds raised will go towards kids programming year-round.
The cost for one wagon and tree is $400. ย
We are pleased to already have our friends at Sargasso Philanthropic CIC and Strum Consulting each signed on to sponsor a wagon. If you want to support a wagon or contribute to the event please contact us at info@afterwordsliteraryfestival.com
Thank you and we look forward to parading downtown with you in November!
